Magic wallets for him & for her

Wondering what I could make as little gifts that kids could buy for pennies at the village fete I came up with this idea of magic wallets (am I showing my age? lol).

The wallets are made using the Bigz ATC die (still in the sale at £6.99 P&P free!!).

You can use any small dies or punches to decorate them, I cut some circles up to make the flowers and a Martha Stewart punch for the leaves for ‘her. For ‘him’ I used some small birds on a Spellbinders Whimsical Tree.

The ATC size is just right for banknotes and tickets.

Krafting Kidz #7 - Floral lantern

Here is another project that can be made as a present, a simple floral lantern...

 

Using these fab floral stamps from Lin Brown's Eclectica³ collection by PaperArtsy makes creating this lantern very easy. This one alternates pink and blue...

...but you can choose your own colours.

1. Start by cutting four rectangles (it helps if the dies have a pattern that you can use to slip the jump rings through). 
2. Stamp and cut out your flowers and stalks and then mount them on the panels.
3. Join your panels together using jump rings.
4. Use two lengths of chain or ribbon slipped through a swivels ring and attached to alternate corners as the hanger.

Don’t disturb the boys!

This project came to mind when a friend of mine was telling me about finding herself on her own because her sons were playing on Play Stations and her husband regularly disappeared into the garage to do DIY projects and all of them hated being interrupted, lol.

I’ve cut a rectangular piece of mountboard (greyboard is fine too) and painted it with TH acrylic paints with dabbed gesso through masks with a piece of Cut-N-Dry.  I cut the ‘Toy soldier’ from mountboard too and painted with acrylics before gluing together. The letters are an assortment of colours and fonts from those saved from previous projects (I throw very little away).

The door hanger was cut using a Movers and shapers circle. You can have fun making your own variations.

A vintage thank you

Well here I am today with a vintage style thank you card using simple colours and lots of layers. This could easily be adapted for lots of occasions or as I tend to do left plain. So here is my make :

I started by embossing a piece of card the same size as the card front ( if I work on the card I always get the back so messy!?) and embossed using this great book covers folder. Then I went in with lots of yummy brown distress inks in frayed burlap, vintage photo and walnut  stain..drying between each layer with a heat tool.

When dry and happy with the colours I  flicked and spritzed some water and dabbed off and dried to give a slightly more mottled look...smaller droplets just soften the colour and can be heat dried as can larger droplets, dabbing off give a more dramatic effect. I also added some mini  film strip die cuts and some vintage lace die cuts which add layers and interest ( I hope!)

Now onto the lovely vintage lady, this is a great set which has two stamps and the framelits to match, no scissors needed to cut out as the die does if for you!  I stamped out the Lady in archival ink and gave a quick blast with heat tool to make sure I didn't smudge the ink. Covered with framelit and lightly taped down so she didn't move!

 

She cuts out beautifully ! I added some distress ink colour from my craft sheet using a waterbrush and then dried and inked edges with frayed burlap.

I added a sentiment and some flowers cut from tattered garland strip die and stamped with text and the edges inked with vintage photo DI.

Krafting Kidz #6 – A pencil pot for Dad

This week we thought it’d be nice to make something for Dad, for his birthday or perhaps something to put away for Christmas – a pen and pencil pot. It also makes a useful gift for any relative who has a home office or craft room.

I’ve used an MDF square pot which can be purchased at lots of the general craft and hobby stores or online from one of the MDF craft suppliers. To decorate it I’ve used a Spellbinders 3D M-bossabilities embossing folder (almost any will do) to emboss 2 sheets of 180 gsm plain white card. (I used ‘Ornamental swirls’.)

Once the card is embossed cut out four pieces exactly the size of the sides of your pot. Choose what colour Distress ink pad you want to use and gently blend the ink all over the four pieces. You will find that the embossed parts will be darker than the rest simply because they are raised and therefore attract more ink. I used a little Treasure Gold rubbed very lightly over some of the highest embossed swirls to give the texture a lift.

You can add a little border of lace around the top to finish it off or choose any strip die, border die or border punch with a contrasting colour card.

Crunchy paper and rust

I’ve got a thing about texture at the moment and just to prove that it can be achieved simply here is a quick card using the wonderfully clever crunchy wax paper from PaperArtsy and some rusting powder,,,

This waxed paper is thick and fabulously scrunchy, it’s well named! Scrunched, torn and rusting powder added, it makes for a brilliant texture for your cards and altered art projects. This great Bigz flower die by Basic Grey (Flower, leaves & stem) has been cut from mountboard, painted with acrylic paint, stamped and layered up.A simple, textured card.

Textured heart

This started off as a basic MDF heart. It’s been covered with kraft card embossed with the fab’ new Crafts-Too Lattice A4 embossing folder then edged with Vintage photo distress ink (pad) and a light spray of a metallic gold mister.

The handmade flowers have been made using various tools - the Heartfelt Creations Aster dies, a snowflake punch and the Flora Grande Flora die.

There are assorted ephemera pieces tucked here and there and I used some thin string wrapped around the Movers & shapers bobbins, the Movers & shapers dress form and one of the Movers & shapers mini butterflies.
