Field Notes - tag

Hello everyone, Brenda here and wishing you a very happy start to the week.

Feeling summery (having been in the garden clearing up and potting my bedding plants) I have made a tag to welcome those warmer days we are expecting here in the UK.

1. The first layer is the second generation print using distress inks and a Tim Holtz layering stencil, to see the actual technique pop over to Tim's blog and his June tag where he describes how to do it.
2. Next, using the same layering stencil, add a little of the same colour distress inks using a blending tool.

3. Swipe a little vintage photo and walnut stain distress inks on your craft mat, mist with water and dip a couple of the edges in the watery inks, dry and repeat to get an aged look to them.

4. Stamp the Mariposa stamp in Potting Soil archival ink both on the tag and on a spare piece of card.

5. Paint the butterfly with distress inks and a water brush, cut out the lower body and wings and edge with walnut stain.
6. Using a small piece of watercolour paper dip it into distress inks you have swiped and misted on the craft mat.
7. Stamp the Field Notes, tear it out and edge again with walnut stain.

8. Take one of the arrows from the industrious edges set and swipe Forget-Me-Not archival ink over it,

9. Dip a long length of American seam binding into distress inks, scrumple and heat dry to make a large bow to secure to the top of the tag. (Tim shows how to do this in the same post as I have linked to above).

Finally adhere the elements to the tag to complete it.

Thanks for taking a look at my project today and if you are inspired to make a summery tag, leave a link in the comments box below so I can come and take a look. (I shall check back for a week to see if there any to come and view).

Have a great week.

hugs Brenda xxx

  11. Hello Brenda,
The Tag looked good on the first stencil pass with the watercolour but the second pass of swiping the walnut and vintage photo DI across made the Tag a WOW, it softens the whole piece wonderfully.

  12. Wonderful use of the June techniques to create a gorgeous tag. I agree with Sue - that ageing with the brown inks gives such amazing depth to the colours... Love this one!
