A shabby French tag

Hi everyone it’s Brenda from Bumblebees and Butterflies here today to share a tag I made using a quick distress ink background and the French Flight stamps and dies set.

P1180528
I started with the background using Victorian Velvet and Scattered Straw distress inks, smooshing them onto the heat mat and spritzing them with water. I laid a stencil into the inks lifted it and laid it on my tag transferring the colours and some of the pattern.

I used the same colours to blend inks over the tag to create some more depth and I splattered with some walnut stain and frayed burlap inks to create some more interest.

At this point I had a good idea of the elements I wanted to add to the tag but hadn’t got the design yet in my head.

You’ll see the pen nib didn’t make it lol but I always mix and swap elements until I am happy with the composition.

I added the tiny bicycle because I just thought it looked very French and added to the atmosphere of the theme, but also helped to ground everything and the piece of trellis framework behind the Eiffel Tower just seemed to help place it and give it some perspective.

I also added some torn strips of tissue tape …..

…. and the Fleur de Lys was inked, covered with glossy accents to give it some dimension and you can just see a smearing of Treasure Pewter on it. The seam binding was dipped in distress inks and wound three times round my fingers to make a fuller bow.

Thanks for looking, I hope you are inspired to try out the background and the beautiful Framelits dies.

Till the next time.
