Colourful Canvas

 Hi everyone. Nikki here from Addicted to Art today. This canvas is 6x6 inches and I started with a selection of distress paints and randomly covered the surface.

 I failed to take photos of the next step but here is what I did. I cut my scallop shape out of photocopy paper and stuck it to the centre of the canvas with removable tape. I then carefully used cut and dry foam and painted the outer section / border with seedless preserves distress paint. (Work from the inside to the outside to ensure paint does not get under the mask.)

Once dry I took the latticework stencil and carefully dabbed some matt chalky paint through the stencil. I actually used household paint but gesso would work or chalk paints like Paper Artsy - preferably an opaque colour lighter than the base colour (seedless preserves here). Once dry I very lightly sanded the whole surface.

I then took some card stock and painted lightly with the same distress paints except the seedless preserves. I cut and embossed two butterflies from Butterfly Duo (Bigz die and texture fade). I then dry brushed a little seedless preserves over the surface to catch the embossed areas and highlight them.

I took a stamp from Tim Holtz 'Perspective' stamp set and stamped the sentiment in archival ink and quickly embossed with clear powder.

Finally I used matt medium to adhere the butterflies to the surface of the canvas.
