I talk to myself

For my first post this month I have made my latest page in my journal (click here to see the JanuaryFebruary and March pages!) and chose to use the fabulous 'Shrek' girl stamp set from PaperArtsy.
I started by adding layers of Beach Hut paint to my journal page. This is a translucent paint so as you add layers it naturally forms lighter and darker areas. If you prefer a more solid finish then you could try Captain Peacock.
I then used broken China Distress Ink to stamp a background stamp. It look quite bold at this stage - don't worry!
Through a stencil I added Purple Rain paint. I didn't add it very thickly because I wanted to keep it as a background element.
Then I sanded the whole page gently which helps to tie in the background elements.
In a few sections, I added some stamped numbers from the set. Rather than use the stamp as a whole I bent it so only sections touched the page.
On white card, stamp 'Shrek' girl. you will need at least two versions but I stamped the head a third time over a little White Fire that I had painted on the card.
I cut out all the elements and painted them using watercolour pencils but obviously you could use your favourite colouring medium!
As I always incorporate the month on the page I chose to stamp it several times on a piece of washi tape
The final flourishes were to assemble 'Shrek' girl, add a few painty lines and circles and the sentiment. I added a few stencilled dots, using black ink, to balance the page.
Thank you, as always for popping by.

  3. I love that stencil by Clare Lloyd. It produces a great background here Gabrielle. And of course that image is so brilliant. Love it!
