Pots of stencilling fun

Hello again, Amanda here with an idea for brightening up your houseplants with painted flower pots.  I've used a mixture of different paints and alcohol inks to transform a plain (and cheap!) terracotta pot to a custom decor accessory.  I hope you like it!

Here are some of the supplies I used for my project:

I started by giving a plain terracotta flower pot a coat of blue metallic acrylic paint.  I followed this with a coat of Tattered Angels "Midnight Rendezvous" glimmer glaze.  I used a stiff paintbrush for this, as I wanted a streaky finish that would let some of the lighter base colour show through. 

Next I dabbed on a coat of glimmer glaze (a washed baby wipe is great for this) and painted the rim of the pot with dark gold metallic acrylic paint

To finish the rim, I dabbed over some gold alcohol mixative, then applied two coats of crackle glaze.  Once dry, I highlighted the crackles by rubbing on some rust alcohol ink, then wiping the excess away with blending solution to leave the colour just in the cracks:

To add the flower design, I sprayed a That Special Touch mini mask with temporary adhesive and pressed it into place on the painted pot.  I then dabbed diluted gold alcohol mixative through the mask and around the edges. 

To give the flower more dimension, I dabbed a little rust alcohol ink onto the centre of the flower using a cotton bud.  Finally, I did a little tidying up - I painted some glimmer glaze around the edges and smudged it with a cloth to frame the flower, and I used a cotton bud with gold mixative on to neaten edges around the flower.  The finishing touch was three blue gems on the ends of the stamens.
