Vintage Santa cards - Brenda

Hi it's Brenda with you today and I have been using the fabulous Yuletide stamps by Tim Holtz which are available in the shop.

I made a set of 7 cards in different colours and I'm sharing the green ones with you today. The original set which are blue can be found over at Bumblebees and Butterflies here and I will be posting a pink and grey set on my blog as well on Wednesday.

These don't take too long to make and I'v kept them flat so they can easily be posted.

Distress Crayon Love

Hello Everyone! Jennie here with you today sharing a recent experimental piece with those wonderful Distress Crayons.

I had to have a bit of a stern talk to myself to order the coloured ones (you know me, she who loves anything brown!) but I am so glad I did. Whilst experimenting I took photographs to remember what I had done - so I am afraid this is rather photograph heavy, but I thought you might appreciate the different ways I have used the Crayons in this piece.  

I started by running my tag through the Big Shot with one of my favourite Texture Fades. However, any Embossing Folder would do for this technique, although I think it works better with a little open space here and there.

I decided to then coat the tag with Gesso to see how this would affect the Crayons.

I then wiped the crayons over the tag and then smudged the colours together - I used Picked Raspberry, Mermaid Lagoon and Peacock Feathers.

I really wanted something a little more subtle so I spritzed with water and mopped up a little bit here and there before drying with the heat tool.

Then I wondered what it might look like with some embossing powder over it, so I swiped the Versamark Pad over the raised area and then covered it with clear embossing powder. Well it went everywhere but thankfully doesn't really show up ! although it does glint a bit.

I then blended some Vintage Photo Distress Ink around the edges.

I decided to try the Crayons on the Tattered Florals Die just lightly around the edge and then blending it with my finger before spritzing with water and screwing it up. I made a Rose with these three petals (tutorial here on my blog if you are new to these).

I then started looking around to see what else I could use! This was a die cut finding from ordinary board. I gave it a coat of gesso first and then blended Mermaid Lagoon and Walnut Stain Distress Crayons over it. It seemed a little dark so I spritzed it with water and dried it with the heat gun before giving it a coat of clear embossing powder. It actually looks very effective.

I had cut the bottom of my tag to fit the embossing folder, but felt it was a bit stunted. So I embossed the piece I cut off and using similar techniques made this piece to go on the bottom of the tag. The piece of lace hides the join.

I really love the effect of the crayons on the Tattered Florals.

And as I had used the same colours for all my individual pieces, everything matches.

White Fire Wanderings

Hello all, Alison here from Words and Pictures, and I've been playing with the oh-so-fabulous new White Fire Fresco Finish paint from PaperArtsy.

I've loved the White Fire colour of Treasure Gold right from the start of my crafting, and it remains my go-to gilding wax... and now I can have it in paint form - fully metallic with a fabulous sheen.

It's also one of the translucent Frescos so you can use it over colour to add a fabulous sheen, or add several coats for more coverage.

I used two ATC sized pieces of card and ran them through the BigShot with the Tim Holtz Compass embossing folder, and then gave them a rough coat of the White Fire paint.  You can still see the card coming through in places, but even so the shimmer is fabulous.

I spritzed with some of the blue and green Distress Sprays, as well as adding some Ground Espresso.  I let the ink pool and in places spritzed it with water to get it to move more.

I added some more burnishing with Sepia and Jet Black Archival inks, just sweeping them over the raised texture in places.

The words were cut in plain white card using the Adventure Words Thinlits.  Once cut, I gave them a coat of the White Gold and then burnished with the Archival inks again.

They're layered over some torn book pages, and I added some vintage pen nibs to record the journey!

I added a bit of text stamping for extra detail and interest.

That's about it - a simple make, just a way to experiment with the White Gold Fresco paint really... and I can highly recommend it!

There's another project coming your way here in the next few weeks using the same paint, and if I weren't away from my craft table I'd probably still be playing with it now!

Little Wishes

Hello again, Jennie here with my second make of the month and as promised it is another 4x4 Christmas card. 

I started with a piece of white cardstock and embossed it using the Greetings Embossing Folder. I find it easier to cut it to size first before embossing otherwise the edges have a tendency to tear when you cut it. I gave it a good coating of Festive Berries Distress Ink and blended a little Gathered Twigs around the edges and here and there over the embossing. (And yes I had hands to match!)

 I die cut two snowflakes from white cardstock and gave them a covering with Picket Fence Distress Paint and gave them a blast with the heat gun. A little blended Gathered Twigs around the edges gave them a bit of definition. I cut the smaller one from some old text paper and again blended some Gathered Twigs around the edges.

And then it was down to sticking the embossed layer onto my card and layering the snowflake. I found a little strip of music paper in my scraps box and there were enough scraps left over  from the snowflakes to make a little white border and a tag.

Another card for the Christmas box and again one which could easily be batch made.
