Shabby Wishes

Hello! and welcome to my first make for this month which is a ... sort of ... Valentine's card!

I wanted to make something a little different in terms of colour and elements - so no red, black or hearts!

I started with a piece of good quality cardstock as I wanted to dampen it down a bit with gesso and didn't want the paper to disintegrate in the process! Once the gesso had dried I added some crackle paste through a harlequin stencil.

I found all of these items in my bits and pieces box cut for other projects and not used but I did seem to have used the same ink (Vintage Photo Distress Ink ) on them so they did co-ordinate!

I died some ribbon using Vintage Photo but made it really dark as a contrast to the other embellishments.

I layered my background onto some cream cardstock and then a card cut from kraft card. I was annoyed with myself as I had intended to wrap the ribbon around the background paper before sticking it down! so in the end had to resort to cutting a piece and laying it across the doily! 

I then layered more pieces over the top, not using any foam pads but just glueing a small piece of the element which makes it look as thought the piece is floating.

Finally I added the flower, leaf and ribbon and adhered the handwritten word where it touched!

Although I have not used any foam pads there is still quite a good layered finish.

Kraft and White

Good morning everyone! 

Jennie here with you today to share a little card made from some of my favourite colours - Kraft and White - BUT with that all important splash of red!

As you will all know by now I just love 4 x 4 cards, so I normally have a little stack of white cardstock already cut ready just to go. This piece was first stamped with some of my favourite little stamps using Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. I stamped off first, so this was a second generation stamp in order to keep it light. A little ink was blended around the edges and a I added a few splatters. Finally I added some texture paste through a layering stencil.

Again I often keep a little stack of kraft and cream crardstock already cut to size (8 x 4) so I can layer my front layer quickly.

Some of these pieces were in my scrap box having been stamped or cut for other projects (I am a bit of a kraft/brown person really!).  The small leaf was punched from the Tim Holtz Leaf Punch and coloured with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.

The small flower, and my pop of colour, was made using Tim Holtz's Spiky Floral Punch. I punched five flowers from a small piece of scrap card in my overflowing box. The three inner petals were scrunched and glued together whilst the outside two layers were rounded on the reverse with a ball tall.

And then it was just a matter of layering everything onto the card. Another card for the box and nice to know that I have used a few more scraps !

Vintage Flip-Its

Good morning to you all! Jennie here sharing my first project of the month.  

I have had a Sissix Card Flip-It die for the last year and (hang head in shame) have not used it yet. So here goes with my first attempt using up some vintage scraps in my box as well (so doubly feel good!)

I cut the card first in some kraft cardstock to give it a bit of form and then used the die again using the vintage paper but this time cutting out the middle "flip-it" section. This got stuck to the kraft card and the edges blended with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.

I cut the middle section again in cream cardstock this time and added some texture paste and light stamping and blended ink around the edges. I also punched some leaves, a sentiment and made a small flower. I have used only Gathered Twigs Distress Ink for all of this.

The flower was made using the new Tim Holtz flower punches: two large tattered florals and one small spiky flower is enough to make the single flower. These were spritzed with water and scrunched up and when dry layered over the top of each other.

The flip-it part of the card was then stuck on the front and decorated with the embellishments.

And I made a similar piece to go on the back.

Well I really enjoyed using this die and can't believe it has sat on the shelf for so long - poor thing just waiting to have its moment of glory!
