Stencil, Paint, Doodle

Today I thought I would have a bit of fun with paint, stencils and some drawing. I started with a canvas - this one is 8inches square.
Some paints - I used a combination of PaperArtsy Fresco and Cosmic shimmer matt paints, some sponges and stencils - I used Tim Holtz layering stencils.
Start by randomly stencilling areas of the canvas with different coloured paints - I use a sponge (not too much paint as you don't want it to seep through). Keep going until you are happy - it does not need to be perfect as you going to cover most of it up!
Then the scary bit - I drew onto the canvas using a promarker. I did make a little sketch first to get an idea of where to put my flowers.
Badly photographed sketch on paper
If you are doing in a journal or on a harder surface you could stamp your images - or if using a canvas like me - stamp on tissue paper and glue to the surface - but it's fun to try and draw occasionally! (Whatever you draw or stamp with make sure it is not water based as I now add more paint.)

Next I took another colour of paint and covered all areas except the flowers. I used a translucent paint but you could use a watered down version of a non translucent paint - this allows some of the background to show through. I also rubbed some away in places with a cloth.
Once dry I took my black and white journalling pens and doodled around my flowers and highlighted the swirls I had originally drawn.
Finally I took some stickles and went around my flowers to add a little sparkle!
Thanks for stopping by
Nikki

  1. How fun! I've been so busy lately that I haven't had a chance to sit and play like that. I HAVE to allow some time!
