imagination is boundless

Well Trace here with my first real play with beeswax, I admit to being a little terrified of this rather funny smelling product and wasn't sure if I would end up rather less than happy...however having seen the lovely Hels playing with beeswax I  decided to dive in....( not literally!). So in part this piece is inspired by the lovely Hels, and also the desire to use my new prima die and the new Tim Holtz spring greenery strip die....oh my this is one that will be well loved!
So here is my make :
I started by creating a painty background on my piece of mountboard..using Distress paints , yes still love these! I used weathered wood and also some antique linen.
I then tool 1 ply of a tissue ...big enough to cover the whole piece of mountboard and randomly stamped some script using black archival. Now for one of those well here goes , first time for everything moments...I applied beeswax, (which had been melting in my project pan inside my melt pot.) using a non synthetic brush. I then added the layer of tissue, more beeswax and voila!
I left to cool to make sure I didn't get to slap happy! then I added more beeswax around the edges and even got up the confidence to add some drippage!
Now for all the decoration, I am playing with lots of layers at the moment...a phase I am sure so I firstly added a #8 tag...coloured with weathered wood distress ink and coated in beeswax ( applied using the brush) .
The two smaller tags are the gorgeous prima tags...new to me, which were die cut , inked around edges ( I stamped sentiment in black archival onto smaller tag ) and coated with beeswax, using brush. For these I then gently heated with my heat tool and smooshed beeswax a bit ...which was cool as it soaked in and gave a really smooth finish.
The butterflies were cut from some of the gorgeous crowded attic paper stash....and coloured using a waterbrush and distress marker scribbled onto my craft sheet. these were then dunked straight in the melted beeswax in the melt pot, drained and set aside. When starting to cool I shaped them lightly, as the cool thing is when they cool they hold there shape but while still warm can be easily shaped and manipulated.
The flowers were made using Tim holtz's tattered floral die and also dunked in the beeswax...well rude not too?!
Finally I added some of the gorgeous new spring greenery , cut from Tim Holtz paper and ...yes you guessed dunked in the beeswax.
So lots of happy playtime here, and thanks to Hels for the inspiration and confidence to give it a go!

  4. Morning Trace, This is fabulous, I have watched Hels do the technique with Beeswax, but haven't tried myself, took me all my time to try the UTEE and got into a bit of a mess with my flowers, overcooked them haha, but think I will be trying the beeswax. I adore the drippage, it looks so effective, the flowers and greenery (I want all the new TH new dies, especially the greenery and the bigz florals), are stunning, gorgeous colours you have used.
Lots of love from Patricia xx
