Film Strip Fun

Hello to you all, Jennie here and welcome to my first project this month. 

With drama being a great passion of mine I fell in love with Andy Skinner's Old Film Mask the minute I saw it! So here is it's first outing.


I started off with a blank gessoed tag and added some tissue tape and then used the bottom part of the stencil and crackled medium to create the layered film strip look. (Don't you just love that inky fingerprint !! - not ....)


When dry (and I always let cracke dry naturally) I sprayed the tag with Vintage Photo and Faded Jeans Distress Spay Stain giving a really heavy burst in the middle of the tag. Amazingly this dried disappointingly light by the time I had finished my tag.


I then used the top part of the stencil to create a little bit of texture on the top of the tag - I used both Faded Jeans and Vintage Photo Distress Ink but it really is quite light and again dried even lighter!


Then I added a little stamping - and my apologies that the stamps I have used are not in the shop, but hopefully soon (Andy Skinner's Chateau).


By the time I woke the next morning the inks had dried quite light so I added a vial label and some rub ons.


And finally .... a little collage using one of my favourite Photo Booth photos.


A neat little masculine tag which I think would be good to recreate in a card for a male family member.

Voyage

Hello Everyone, Jennie here today, and thank you for joining me for my second post this month.


My husband has his birthday while we are sailing our yacht around the West Coast of Scotland so I decided to make sea faring card for him using as many of my nautical stamps and dies!


I started with Faded Jeans Distress Ink and my favourite Harlequinn layering stencil to add some colour to the base card.


Then added some stamping.


Vintage Photo Distress Ink was blended around the edges and I decided to add the pens to create a dominant feature in the bottom left hand corner.


I cut my globe die in white cardstock and then (carefully!) added Vintage Photo Distress Ink and spritzed it to give a vintage look before overstamping with a text stamp in the same ink.


The blueprint anchor always cuts out very well. After blending Vintage Photo  around the edges and spritzing with some water I used clear embossing powder to give it a bit of a shine!


All my elements were then layered onto the inked and stamped base card and the two quotes added.


A suitable nautical card for my husband!

Be Fearless - tag

Hi everyone, it's Brenda here and my turn to share a design with you; I have a masculine tag today.


I began by painting the tag with both black and white gesso to create my own custom dark grey shade and let it dry. Next I gave it several washes of what I would call battleship blue which was water, cerulean blue and phthalo blue mixed together on the spritzed (with water) background. Again when dry it had a couple of washes of quinacridone gold and heat dried. Then I stamped text one of Andy's steampunk stamps in grey media paint and layered on DecoArt transparent crackle glaze and leaving it overnight to dry. You can see where the cracks have appeared .......


.... but look what happens when you paint over with media antiquing cream, leave it for a while then rub over the surface with a wet babywipe and a dry cloth to reveal the cracks even more ......

I used a square of Tando board to create the focus of the tag by adhering some scrunched up tissue paper and giving it a wash of phthalo blue paint, when it was dry I blended neat phthalo blue around the edges and again when dry a little burnt umber. I also sanded the edges and used a small brush to paint on some titanium white.

I decided to use this handsome gentleman from the photo booth collection and thought that maybe he was home from the army and enjoying a Sunday with his family .....


.... so with that as a theme in mind I gathered some embellishments, a heart and wings for courage, a star for the anticipation of being decorated, a clock and spinner to represent the vulnerability of being a soldier and how life is so fragile in wartime, the pen nib, air mail sticker and stamp to write and put on his letters home and I stamped the words 'be fearless' to create a sense of bravery overcoming fear for this young man.


I used champagne ice and iced espresso metallic lustres on the metal pieces to bring the colours of the metal together and give them some uniformity.




Here's the base of the tag with those fabulous cracks showing through.


You can see the title raised bringing it up to the thickness of the chipboard.
