A Grand Day Out - Sue

Good morning and happy Sunday. Last week I was lucky enough to attend the Stitches show in Birmingham, which is a retail craft show. This was very exciting as I was going to spend the day taking PaperArsty classes, sat next to my teamie Miriam. It was a very early start, but as I was being chauffeur driven by my ever suffering husband that was OK.
We'd both seen who was attending the show, and it was a real treat for knitting, crocheting, and sewing enthusiasts, but not so much for papercrafters. Well what else could we do but spend the day with Leandra and all the PaperArtsy designers (yay!!)
There was a mini class to start with, and then it was the turn of Tracy Scott who is one of my favourite designers. This is what we made.

So Tracy showed us the project and said that we had about an 1hr 45mins to make it. This did scare me 'cos I'm a very slow crafter, but in fact it was a very relaxed class and we finished with time to spare.
I didn't take step by step photo's, and I'm not going to share the techniques as this is a class that Tracy teaches.

These are the new stamps and stencil that I was given. There was a selection of her new releases on the table that we all shared. My set is TS24 and the stencil is PS124

The beautiful mandala stamp is ETS 23 and it's gone straight to the top of my wish list. Don't you love the texture that we made with the Gold Fresco paint. This was a new technique to me and is one I shall definitely be using again (and again, and again).

We then had a class with the wonderful Raquel (Scrapcosy) which Miriam will tell you more about. This was her last show before she goes on maternity leave and it was such fun and I learned loads.

Next was a class with Kay Carley. I've never taken a class with Kay before, so I was really looking forward to it.

Again we had about 1hr 45 to make this, and this technique was definitely new to me. I stuck my dragonfly in the wrong place, and of course it refuses to move without taking the backing with it, so here it stays lol.

Again we used lots of new goodies, and some old favourite frescos. I'm not saying that I have a favourite, but if I did it would be bougainvillea  This was my stamp set and it has a matching stencil which I think is a brilliant idea.

This was a really intense class, packed with techniques that were all new to me so I really enjoyed it. Just pretend that the dragonfly has his tail pointing down, and that he's not covering up his stencilled younger brother doh!

So after a 3minute rest it was time for the final class of the day which was with JOFY. It's been a few years since I've taken a class with Jo so I was looking forward to it immensely.

Now I must admit that this isn't quite what Jo's sample looked like, but we only had 45 mins so I did what I could and the rest went home in a paper bag to be finished off later lol.

Again lovely new stamps and stencils.

It's years since I've stamped in Gloss Glaze and I'd forgotten all about it, so it was great to re-visit this technique.
And now we were all done. In fact the show had closed ages ago, stalls had been packed up, and security were there to escort us out! I'd had a brilliant day and I'd love to do the same again next year hint hint.

Before I forget, Tracy Scott has a workshop at CVC Towers (Potton) on Thursday 6th June. If you can possibly make it you must you will have a brilliant time!
Please look out for Miriams post where she will tell you all about the other classes. Have a brilliant weekend, and thanks very much for looking x

Bloom and Grow - Journal page

Hello it's Sue here and today I'm sharing a journal page with lots of paint and stencilling !

I've got a large book that I use as a journal, to begin with I glued 4 to 5 pages together in each side and also coated the pages with glue that I was going to work on to protect the paper from the paint. Once dry I then gave the pages a coat of Snowflake Fresco Finish. I didn't want to completely cover the text from the pages so I used a baby wipe to lightly wipe away some of the paint.

I then started to build up colour, drying each layer before adding the next.

I used the Lin Brown stencil and stencilled the leaves with Snowflake Fresco Finish. Once dry I gave the whole page a wash of paint to knock the white back.

I then used the JOFY stencil and used Chocolate Pudding first, dried it and moved the stencil slightly. I then used Snowflake Fresco Finish as the following colours are translucent and need the white base for the colours to show.

When I'd finished all the bullrushes I decided I wanted to do more stencilling on the background so I used the Lin Brown 001 stencil, again with Snowflake and again I washed over it to knock back the white.

I then started to add the flowers and used the same technique as the bullrushes, building the colours up layer by layer.

I used some JOFY stamps to stamp a border along the bottom edge with black Archival ink.

I painted the JOFY images and then used one of the stamps from the Lin Brown 05 stamp set with Potting Soil Archival ink. I also stamped through the flower stencil with a small script stamp using the same ink.

I had 2 tags left over from a session playing with my Gelli Plate and I was determined to use them on this journal page. The colours weren't quite right so I gave them a wash of watered down Tikka Fresco Finish. I then used a JOFY stencil with Grunge Paste for the word and I drew around the inside of the flowers on the same stencil with a black pen and doodled on them.

When the Grunge Paste was dry I painted the letters using a fine, detail paint brush, building up the layers of paint and colour.

Before I stuck the tags down, I marked on the page where I wanted them to go and used Mud Splat Fresco Finish to create a shadow.

I then attached the tags and did some doodling around them using a black pen.

I added a little bit of tissue tape at the top as I felt something was missing then did some dry brushing around the edge of the pages and down the centre with Chocolate Pudding Fresco Finish paint. To finish I added 2 buttons to the tags and brushed some Rensaissance Treasure Gold over the Grunge Paste and the buttons.

I hope you've enjoyed today's project as much as I enjoyed making it!

Keeping it neutral !

Hello, it's Sue here and today I'm sharing a canvas that was also something of a challenge for me, as I've kept it very neutral ! I had to try really hard not to reach for some stronger colours !

While I was searching through sonme papers I came across the above that gave me the idea for the colour palette of this piece. (I didn't use the paper in the end though!)

I started by using JOFY 007 stencil with Grunge Paste, when this was dry I painted the canvas with Stone Fresco Finish paint. I then used the JOFY 008 stencil with Nougat Fresco Finish paint.

I also carried the stencilling around the edge of the canvas.

I blended some Irish Cream and Moccha Mousse Fresco Finish paint around the edges with a baby wipe. Then I replaced the JOFY stencil and used a little Irish Cream and Moccha Mousse in the centre of the flowers.

I then added a little Spanish Mulberry Fresco Finish to the centre of the flowers. To create more definition around the seed heads I used a small definition brush and painted some Moccha Mousse down one side and blended the paint using a baby wipe.

I then used the Vintage Cabinet die and cut the shape from some cardboard, tearing a little of the top layer away. I then used Grunge Paste with Lin Brown's 006 stencil, only stencilling around the edge as I will be covering the centre.

I die cut another Vintage Cabinet shape from chipboard, this time using the smaller Movers & Shapers die.  I covered it with a piece of paper from the Chatsworth Collection, then blended Stone Fresco Finish over it and dry brushed some Chutney around the edges. The beautiful stamped image is from the Lynne Perrella 027 set. I've stamped it onto some Smoothy card that's been painted with Nougat Fresco Finish paint then used Claret Fresco Finish paint to highlight areas of the image.

The large flower is plastic and I've painted it with Fresco Finish paint and then I've brushed it with some White Fire Treasure Gold. The leaves have been die cut from Smoothy card using the Tim Holtz Garden Greens die and painted with Stone Fresco Finish paint and then I've used a baby wipe to dab Irish Cream and Moccha Mousse onto them.

All of the embellishments have been brushed with Stone Fresco Finish paint and then brushed with Treasure Gold. I've also brushed some Treasure Gold over the seed heads too.

The Word Band, flowers and bird cage have also been painted with Stone Fresco Finish paint then brushed with White Fire Treasure Gold.

To finish I added some buttons that have been painted and brushed with Treasure Gold too.

I hope you've enjoyed today's project.

Garden of Dreams tag !

Hello, it's Sue here and today I'm sharing a tag using lots of stencilling and some of the new JOFY stamps.

I started by covering a jumbo manilla tag with some paper from the new PaperArtsy Chatsworth collection. I then gave it a coat of Matt Medium to protect it from the paint I've then used.

I used one of the stamps from the Lin Brown 07 set and stamped using Snowflake Fresco Finish paint.

I then watered down some Tikka Fresco Finish paint and washed it over the tag, this knocks back the stamping but still allows it to show through.

I then used Lin Brown's 002 stencil and stencilled some leaves using Snowflake Fresco Finish paint.

I gave the tag a further wash with watered down paint and this time used Chartreuse as well as Tikka.

I brushed some Chutney Fresco Finish around the edges and then used the JOFY mini 33 and 34 stamps.

I painted the flowers and grass with Fresco Finish paints and added the white dots using my Sharpie pen. I stmaped some extra flowers onto some painted card and cut them out.

The sentiment is also stamped onto some painted card and I've also painted the words. I then sponged some Autumn Fire and Brown Shed Fresco Finish paint around the corners. The ribbon is seam binding that I've also painted with watered down Fresco Finish paint.

Thanks for stopping by.

Garden of hopes and dreams !

Hello, it's Sue here today sharing a journal page using lots of new PaperArtsy goodies !

I started by covering a piece of Smoothy Heavy card with a piece of paper from the new PaperArtsy Chatsworth collection. I gave it a coat of Glue 'n' Seal so that the paper would be protected from the paint I would be using. I then started to stencil using Snowflake Fresco Finish paint and the new Lin Brown stencil.

I carried on stencilling, this time using another of the new Lin Brown stencils. I prefer to use a stencil brush as there's more control of how much paint I'm using and also where I'm stencilling.

I then added a coat of Tikka and Chartreuse Fresco Finish paints. You can see that the stencilling has resisted the layer of paint.

I then started to stencil again and I've used the new JOFY stencils as well as another Lin Brown stencil. As the paints I was using are translucent I've stencilled first with Snowflake Fresco Finish paint then started to build up the layers of translucent paint, drying in between layers. For the two flowers I've also stamped some text through the stencil.

I used the Tim Holtz Mixed Media stamp set and stamped with Claret Fresco Finish paint.

I die cut the leaves using the Tim Holtz Garden Greens die and I've painted them with a mixture of French Roast and Blood Orange Fresco Finish paint. I then edged the leaves with some Florentine Treasure Gold.

The text is one of the new JOFY mini stamps and I've cut the words up and added the '&' from another of the new JOFY stamp sets. I stamped across the bottom edge with another of the new JOFY mini stamps and added the white dots using a Sharpie white pen.

I hope you've enjoyed today's project !
